What to look for
- Panel type: OLED for dark rooms and perfect blacks; Mini LED for bright rooms.
- Size: measure your viewing distance first (see the FAQ).
- Gaming: 120 Hz or more and HDMI 2.1 for current consoles.
- Smart platform: Google TV (Sony), webOS (LG) and Tizen (Samsung) all have Netflix, Prime Video, JioHotstar and YouTube. Pick the one you find easiest.
- Sound: thin TVs have modest speakers. Budget for a soundbar for movies and sport.

OLED or Mini LED: which is better?
OLED gives perfect blacks and the best contrast, which looks stunning in a dim room. Mini LED gets much brighter, so it is better for rooms with a lot of daylight. Both are excellent; choose based on your room.
What size TV should I buy?
For 4K, a simple rule is to sit about 1 to 1.5 times the screen's diagonal away. From 2 metres (about 6.5 feet), a 55 to 65 inch TV is ideal. Most people who upgrade wish they had gone bigger.
Do I need HDMI 2.1?
Only if you play on a PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X or gaming PC and want 4K at 120 Hz. For streaming and TV channels, any HDMI port is fine.
